Brexit
The special chapter on Gibraltar to be included in the Brexit deal is nearly ready, but there are still problems with some of the details.
Madrid and London are racing to reach consensus over a series of issues in order to create a more balanced relationship for the transitional period when the UK and its overseas territory withdraw from the EU. And the price of tobacco products has become one of the last stumbling blocks in these talks.
On Sunday, the government of Gibraltar said there will be “a set of practical measures spelled out in separate arrangements with Spain covering tax cooperation, police and customs cooperation, the environment, citizens’ rights and tobacco.”
Spanish sources added that talks are still open regarding management of the Gibraltar airport.

Crash
ONE person has died and five were injured – two seriously – after a collision between a car and an ambulance.
Prior to the accident, the Andalucia emergency control centre said that they had received calls and alerted the Guardia Civil to a car that was reported to be ‘lurching along the road without lights on’.
The accident happened last night on the A-92 motorway in the Granada province.
Emergency services say the victim was travelling in the car and the rest of the injured in the ambulance.

Tuna
Europol have coordinated an international operation with authorities from France, Italy, Malta, Spain and Portugal to arrest 79 individuals for their alleged involvement in Europe’s Bluefin Tuna market.
Operation Tarantelo was launched when the Guardia Civil noted irregularities involving bluefin tuna fishing in the Med.
Bluefin tuna shipments were being smuggled into Spain through French harbours after being caught in Italian and Maltese waters.
Several food poisoning cases have been attributed to the unsanitary conditions in which the fish are stored when smuggled into Spain.
In total, estimated profits for 2018 amounted to over 12 million euros as it is believed the illegal market has been smuggling 2.5 million kilograms a year.
The Guardia Civil made 79 arrests after carrying out 25 searches.
Police seized more than 80,000 kilograms of illegal bluefin tuna, alongside half a million euros in cash and seven luxury vehicles.
Business
Power generator ContourGlobal Plc confirmed earlier that it has been in talks with Spain’s Iberdrola over a potential deal to buy the Milan-listed company’s solar power plant in Spain.
ContourGlobal’s statement comes a day after British power producer Drax announced a deal to buy a group of Scottish power plants from Iberdrola for 702 million pounds
