Gender Violence
Police are searching for a man believed to have killed his partner, a 46-year-old woman who was found dead this morning in Torrox in the Málaga province. The body was found inside an apartment and had been stabbed.
The incident comes on the back of several more cases of gender violence this week. Two women and two children were killed in three separate episodes, bringing the total number of victims so far this year to 41.
And in Torremolinos a 37-year-old man from Romania has been arrested after repeatedly stabbing and beating a Filipino woman whom he had met two or three days earlier, and who had refused to enter into a relationship with him. The victim is recovering from her wounds.
Extremists
A court has sentenced four people to prison terms of up to seven years for recruiting and indoctrinating supporters for the Islamic State group via Facebook .. mainly young Muslim women,
The National Court found the man and three young women guilty of terrorist indoctrination in a ruling which was made public yesterday. The four – two Moroccans, a Portuguese national and a Spaniard – were arrested in October 2015.
Religious Sensibilities
A judge in Madrid has formally indicted a Spanish actor as a result of a lawsuit brought against him by a group of Christian lawyers who accused him of offending religious sensibilities in a Facebook post.
“Willy” Toledo had been sued by the Spanish Association of Christian Lawyers
After being summoned twice to appear in court to testify, Toledo was arrested earlier this month and spent 20 hours in jail before being released pending the judge’s decision.
Now the magistrate has decided to press forward with the case against the actor.
Article 525 of the criminal code still lays out the crime of insulting religious sentiments, including by deriding or ridiculing people’s beliefs, rites and ceremonies.
New Davis Cup
Madrid will host the inaugural Davis Cup finals week next November.
The event, which will see 18 teams battle it out for the trophy, will be staged at the Caja Magica, the venue for the Madrid Masters in May.
Madrid will also host the event in 2020.
Defending champions France will face Croatia in November in the final of the last edition of the traditional competition.
