One week ahead of a planned strike by Ryanair cabin crew, the European Commission has warned the low-cost carrier that it must submit to the labor laws of the countries where its workers live.
The EU Transportation Commissioner said “There are rules, and these are very clear.
Ryanair is bracing for a new cabin crew strike in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands on Friday, September 28. The unions behind the stoppage disagree with the company policy of putting all its workers on Irish contracts rather than following local legislation.
Unions warn that this will be “the biggest strike ever seen by Ryanair” following earlier walkouts in July and August that forced the company to cancel hundreds of flights across Europe.

Spanish Golfer

Teammates of an Iowa State University student who was killed while playing golf near the campus lit candles at a vigil to remember the 22-year-old.
The vigil for Celia Barquin drew a large crowd on the Ames University campus.
Several speakers talked about the star golfer from Spain.
Barquin, an engineering student, was found on Monday at the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.
Police charged a 22-year-old homeless man who had been staying in an encampment near the golf course with first-degree murder in her stabbing death.

Costa Blanca Beach Deaths
A 65-YEAR-OLD woman has died on a Costa Blanca beach after being pulled unconscious from the sea.
The incident was reported at mid day yesterday on the Poniente beach in Benidorm.
Despite being administered CPR by lifeguards they couldn’t revive her.
It’s the second drowning within two days in the Alicante area.
On Tuesday a bather died at the Arenal del Bol beach, in nearby Calpe.

Air Near Misses
A report has been released this week over a near miss between two aircraft approaching Barcelona in July.
The incident occurred when a Vueling Airbus A320 from Rome was approaching the runway at a height of about 4,000 feet.
Meanwhile, a Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737 from Casablanca was also approaching the same runway at the same altitude.
The civil aviation accident and incident commission confirmed that the separation between the aircraft was reduced to 200 feet .. However, the near miss was resolved and both aircraft continued for a safe landing.
Meanwhile this week, an Iberia Express Airbus A321 from Madrid to Palma had to return to Madrid, landing about 70 minutes after takeoff, after the aircraft suffered a bird strike whilst climbing from the runway.
This incident follows on from one involving a Ryanair jet from Barcelona and another affecting a British Airways plane from Alicante, also this week.

Historical Memory
The Spanish Government has agreed to update the map of mass graves where tens of thousands of victims of the Civil War and the subsequent dictatorship are buried.
At a press conference, the Director-General for Historical Memory, Fernando Martinez, explained that the main objective is to design four-year plans for State-led exhumations.
To do this the official map of 2,470 graves will be updated, the remains will be identified with a DNA bank and a ‘census of victims will be carried out.
