Minimum Wage
The Socialist minority government has agreed with Podemos to raise the minimum wage and increase taxes for the rich if next year’s national budgets get parliamentary approval.
Passing the 2019 national budget is seen as a key step for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s plans to remain in office until the current term ends in 2020.
His Socialist’s and Podemos lawmakers will still need to enlist support from small and regional parties to pass the budget.
The monthly minimum wage will rise to 900 euros from 736 euros currently if the spending plan goes ahead.
Prices
Spanish consumer prices rose more than expected in September driven by an increase in the cost of electricity, heating oil and gas, official data showed today.
National consumer prices rose 2.3 percent year-on-year in September, according to data from the National Statistics Institute, compared to 2.2 percent recorded in August.
Core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, was 0.8 percent year on year, unchanged from a month earlier.
Industrial Action
Truck drivers are holding protests at various locations across 4 Catalan provinces today
The truckers are complaining over enforced routes that take them off the main road network and onto the faster, but more expensive, toll roads.
The Catalan government enforced the restrictions from September
This is in addition to the restriction in force since April 2013 in the province of Girona.
In all cases the trucks are offered a discount on the toll roads, however this discount is not even half of the total price.
The protests will be in the form of protest marches and slow moving trucks from 5 this afternoon on a number of roads including the Main AP7 Motorway
