Spain’s health minister has resigned over irregularities found in her
master’s degree, the second

cabinet member to be replaced in the just over 100 days since Pedro
Sanchez came to power.

Carmen Monton announced her resignation late yesterday a day after
news website elDiario.es

published irregularities in her 2011 degree on gender studies. Her
final work, it later emerged, had

chunks of text copied from websites and other works.

Sanchez, who became prime minister in June promising to root out
corruption, lost a culture

minister over a tax fine.

The resignation also puts pressure on opposition leader Pablo Casado,
whose degree is from the

same institute.

European Commission head Jean Claude Juncker earlier called for a “new
alliance” with Africa that

would create millions of jobs and include a free trade deal.

His call came as European countries are struggling to find a united
solution to slow the flow of

African migrants crossing the Mediterranean, mainly to Spain and Italy.

A new economic partnership between the two continents “would create up
to 10 million jobs in

Africa in the next five years alone,” he said.

He said that the EU’s relations with Africa must no longer be seen
“from the sole perspective of

development aid”.

“Africa does not need charity, it needs a balanced partnership and
Europe needs this partnership

just as much,” he told MEPs.

RYANAIR pilots and cabin crew are striking in Germany today which has
led to the cancellation of

150 of the 400 flights due to operate in the country.

It’s the latest walk out that has hit the Irish budget airline
throughout the summer across Europe.

The strike which began at midnight follows a disagreement over pay and
working conditions.

Ryanair has confirmed that 37 per cent of their 400 German flights
have been cancelled.

A strike across five countries last month affected 55,000 ryanair passengers.

But the airline has recently reached a deal with Irish and Italian
pilots after discussions with their

unions.
