Trapped Boy
Efforts to rescue a toddler trapped in a deep borehole entered their eighth day today after digging continued throughout the night.
Rescuers are using a drill to make a vertical shaft running parallel to the hole that the two-year-old reportedly fell into, but work has slowed after machine hit very hard rock yesterday.
When the drill reaches 60 meters, the tunnel will be cladded for safety. After that, a team of specialized miners flown in from northern Spain will go down and dig the last four meters manually to the spot where Julen Roselló is believed to be.… Read all the news

Trapped 2 Year Old
Rescuers said yesterday that the frantic effort to reach a two-year-old boy who fell into a narrow, deep borehole seven days ago has again been slowed by difficult terrain.
Provincial authorities said that a drill used to create a vertical shaft parallel to the waterhole has hit a rocky patch.
There has been no contact made with Julen Rosello, who fell into the 110-meter deep shaft a week ago during a family meal in the countryside northeast of Malaga.… Read all the news

Earth Quake
THE Canary Islands were hit by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake this morning at 7.36 mainland time according to the National Geographic Institute .. they reported a seismic movement almost exactly in mid way between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, at a depth of five kilometres.
The seismic movements were felt in 10 municipalities of both islands and lasted less than a minute.
Another three small quakes were detected in the same area shortly afterwards.

Trapped 2 Year Old
Rescuers frantically racing to reach a two-year-old boy trapped in a borehole are clinging to the hope of finding him alive despite massive setbacks in getting to the bottom of the deep and narrow cavity.
The operation to rescue Julen Rosello from the shaft has gripped Spain since he fell into it on Sunday during a family meal in the countryside north east of Malaga.

Video footage has been released of the inside of the 240ft stretch of tunnel separating rescuers from the two-year-old boy who fell down the borehole in a freak accident on Sunday.
The video – taken by a rotating camera on a robot – shows part of the drop Julen Rosello will have suffered when he went down the hole.
It ends in the blockage of earth, sand and stones around three-quarters of the way down the well – believed to have been caused during the youngster’s fall – which is preventing rescue teams reaching him.… Read all the news

Missing Boy
The search continued yesterday for missing two-year-old Julen Rosello who fell down a well four days ago.
Yesterday authorities confirmed they found hair belonging to the boy in the well.
It was found on Sunday night but the find was only made public following DNA tests.
The Spanish news website El Espanol said a body had been found beneath a blockage around 240 ft down the 350ft borehole near Malaga.
But these reports now appear to be unfounded.
A Swedish firm which helped locate the 33 Chilean miners rescued in 2010 after 69 days underground joined the massive operation to try to locate the boy.… Read all the news

Missing Boy
Rescuers working against the clock to find a missing 2-year-old toddler say they have found hair of the boy in soil extracted from a narrow borehole that is 100 meters deep.
The discovery is giving them renewed confidence that the toddler could be at a deeper section than machinery and surveillance equipment has so far reached.
The government’s representative in the Malaga province says DNA tests have given rescuers “scientific evidence that the boy is there.”
Maria Gamez also said this morning that workers are aiming to dig a side tunnel to reach the shaft.… Read all the news

Extremist Arrests
Authorities in Catalonia said 17 people, including five alleged members of an extremist Islamist cell, were arrested yesterday as part of an ongoing anti-terror operation.
As well as having terror links, the suspects also allegedly participated in theft, drug trafficking and other crimes, according to the Mossos regional police.
More than 100 agents took part in the operation.
The spokeswoman said six venues had been searched in and near Barcelona.
The Investigating magistrate of the National Court ordered the arrests and will be interrogating those in custody later this week.… Read all the news

More than 100 firefighters and emergency workers in southern Spain searched yesterday for a two- year-old boy who fell into a narrow and deep borehole.
Rescuers have been unable to get into the borehole, which is no wider than 25cm in diameter and is believed to go down more than 100 meters.
Yesterday afternoon they were deploying three different approaches to reach the bottom of the well but without damaging its structure or blocking it with soil and rocks.… Read all the news

Rescuers yesterday were trying to find a two-year-old boy who fell down a well more than 100m deep and just 25cm wide.
The search began on Sunday afternoon and continued overnight night near Totalán, a village in hills north-east of Málaga.
They don’t know if the boy is still alive. A camera lowered into the well found his bag of sweets and a plastic cup 78m down, Spanish media report.
