Missing 2 Year Old
More than 100 firefighters and emergency workers in southern Spain searched yesterday for a two- year-old boy who fell into a narrow and deep borehole.
Rescuers have been unable to get into the borehole, which is no wider than 25cm in diameter and is believed to go down more than 100 meters.
Yesterday afternoon they were deploying three different approaches to reach the bottom of the well but without damaging its structure or blocking it with soil and rocks.
According to rescuers, the boy fell into the hole early Sunday afternoon after walking away from his parents while playing in a mountainous area near the town of Totalan, north-east of Malaga.
The hole, which is too narrow for an adult to enter, had been bored a month earlier during water prospection works and had not been covered or protected, it was reported.
A Guardia Civil spokesman said efforts would now focus on using more sophisticated equipment to widen the hole while also digging separate tunnels to access the shaft.

Brexit
As the British House of Commons prepares to vote on Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal this evening, the Spanish government has launched an information website listing the various issues that citizens and businesses will face after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
The page is part of the larger La Moncloa government website, and its stated goals include providing information to citizens and entrepreneurs about “the changes that the UK’s exit from the EU will have on their interests, as well as about the contingency measures being adopted internally and at the European level.”
The site covers the possibility of a no-deal Brexit which would represent “a disaster for everyone” according to a statement made yesterday by Foreign Minister Josep Borrell.
Although many practical details are offered, the website avoids getting specific about the still unclear consequences of a no-deal.

Anti Terrorist Operation
POLICE in Catalonia have launched a major operation against Algerian and Moroccan suspects said to have been plotting a terror attack. Officers have confirmed they have made several arrests in the ongoing operation. They are understood to be targeting a jihadist support network.
Searches have taken place in six properties in the area and Well-placed sources say they expect to end up detaining around a dozen people.
Local reports said the detainees were part of a cell that were in the infancy of planning a terror attack.
One said they were suspected of stealing passports and other ID documents from tourists they could use as part of their plans.

Train Line
THE Spanish government is moving forward with the Bobadilla-Algeciras train line but overlooks the Marbella and Estepona project as Malaga’s annual infrastructure budget is revealed.
The Government continues to invest in Malaga’s infrastructure, focusing primarily on the renovation of the Algeciras train line which is fundamental to guarantee freight transport at the port of Malaga and Cadiz.
But it the development plan to extend the train line from the coast to Marbella and Estepona has reportedly been disregarded.
