Exhumation
The Spanish government will continue works to exhume the remains of dictator Francisco Franco despite legal action.
An administrative court in Madrid had ordered the government to halt the exhumation over safety concerns after Franco’s family resisted attempts to rebury him.
Alicante Tragedy
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy has died after falling from a window in his fifth-storey home.
Despite the efforts of paramedics they were unable to save him after the accident in Alicante.
The father of the child alerted emergency services at around 6pm last night .. he required treatment from health professionals after the traumatic incident.
National Police officers were also called to the scene and have opened an investigation.
Car Crash
Police were forced to intervene after a car ended up in a ditch on Velez-Malaga’s Avenida Juan Carlos I.
The vehicle’s two occupants were taken to hospital, while members of the fire service, Local and National Police worked to secure the vehicle and help traffic flow.
The major road where the incident took place connects Velez-Malaga town with the coast and follows the town’s now-defunct tram line.
Barcelona FC Boss
Former Barcelona FC president Sandro Rosell will be set free pending his trial on money laundering charges.
Court officials said Rosell will be released after his trial session in Madrid today.
He’s has been in custody for more than 21 months after being accused of misappropriating funds coming from the sale of TV rights and the organization of friendly matches featuring Brazil as well as from a sponsorship contract between Nike and Brazil. He is also charged with forming part of a criminal organization.
The former Nike executive in Brazil, who presided over Barcelona from 2010-14, denied any wrongdoing when he testified before a judge yesterday.
Rosell’s former partner, Joan Besoli, will also be released.
Meanwhile
FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and two other Spanish football clubs will not have to repay tax benefits deemed undue by the European Commission after the cancellation of a decision by the EU General Court yesterday.
In line with a 2016 verdict, the European Commission suggested that Spanish football clubs Real Madrid, Barcelona, Osasuna. and Athletic Bilbao were guilty of having an unfair advantage as far as their tax regime was concerned.
Earthquake
An earthquake having a magnitude of 3.6 was registered in the Almeria area just before midday yesterday.
The quake had its epicentre south west of Cuevas de Almanzora, at a depth of 1km and was felt by many people in the region.
The control centre received calls from Albox and Vera, but say there were no reports of personal or material damage.
