Venezuela.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez held a news conference this morning to announce that “Spain officially recognizes Juan Guaidó, the leader of the National Assembly, as the interim president of Venezuela.”
Sánchez also announced that Spain will foster a humanitarian aid plan for Venezuela within the EU and United Nations.
Just minutes later, other countries including Britain and Austria officially recognized Guaidó as well.
Attempts by the EU to reach a common position in order to recognize Guiadó, have run into opposition from a group of countries led by Italy.… Read all the news

Body Found
Four people appeared in court on Saturday in connection with the discovery of the body of a 38-year-old Irish man in Torrevieja.
It is understood the body was found earlier this week in a Shallow grave near the AP7 motorway.
The four, who appeared before an investigating judge are thought to be Irish and British and were arrested by the Guardia Civil.
A fifth person is also under investigation.
The mother of a suspected Irish drugs kingpin Carl Carr has confirmed it was her son’s body but insisted his death was nothing to do with the narcotics trade.… Read all the news

Catalan Trial
Spanish authorities transferred nine politicians and activists this morning from prisons in Catalonia to Madrid, ahead of a high-stakes trial for their part in an attempt to secede from Spain.
There is no date set yet for the first hearing, but Judge Manuel Marchena ordered the separatists to be moved closer to the Supreme Court in Madrid.
Twelve defendants could be imprisoned if they end up convicted of rebellion, the gravest of the charges. They could also be fined if they were to be found guilty of misusing public funds.… Read all the news

Spanish Journalists
The three reporters from Spanish international news agency EFE who were detained this week by Venezuela’s national intelligence service were released yesterday and are in the process of being deported to neighboring Colombia.
Their driver has also been released.

The European Parliament recognized a United States-backed Venezuelan opposition leader as the country’s interim president yesterday while the embattled incumbent failed to comply with an ultimatum from the European Union calling for early presidential elections as a way to resolve the bitter political crisis in the South American nation.… Read all the news

Journalists Seized
The Spanish government this morning demanded the immediate release of journalists working for the Spanish news agency EFE who were arrested in Venezuela.
Madrid “strongly condemns” the detention in Caracas the Foreign Ministry said. Spain demands that “the competent authorities release them immediately,” it said, adding that Madrid “again asks the Venezuelan authorities to respect the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

The British Embassy in Spain has reassured Brits that plans to safeguard their right to healthcare are well advanced.
The move comes after official UK government advice was published telling people to check on healthcare arrangements in each individual EU country they intend to visit after Brexit.

Bitterly cold weather across the UK is causing travel disruption, as some of the biggest
airports are forced to close their runways.
Public transport is being affected, and many roads are impassable.
The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for the UK for snow and ice with freezing-cold

Well Fall Charges
A COURT in Malaga has opened a negligent manslaughter investigation into the death of two-year-old Julen who was killed when he fell down a well.
According to Spanish media, officials will examine two leads; whether the owner of the land Julen died on, or the man who bored the hole, Antonio Sanchez, were negligent, and how Julen came to be buried under large quantities of soil after his fall.
The negligent manslaughter charge carries a sentence of one to four years in prison for serious cases, or a fine in more minor instances.… Read all the news

A European Parliament committee today is expected to propose Britons enjoy visa-free travel to Europe after Brexit, regardless of whether the bloc’s divorce with Britain goes smoothly or becomes a damaging, abrupt split.

As the family of 2 year old Julen Roselló mourned the loss of the toddler who died after falling down a well, tragedy struck again as a 45-year-old man was found dead at the bottom of another well.
