Benidorm Stabbing
Two British men have been arrested after two workers were stabbed at a Benidorm nightspot last night.
The tourists, 20 and 21, were detained after staff at a venue on Calle Majorca – in the resort’s Little England area – were left with knife wounds.
Calle Majorca is the same street where a British holidaymaker was shot in the buttocks last July.
A spokesman for the National Police said ‘Two men have been arrested over a stabbing incident in Benidorm last night around 10.30pm.
The spokesman was not able to confirm local reports the men were Scottish or the casualties were doormen, saying the only information he had was that the arrested men were from the UK.
The arrested pair are expected to appear in court alter today or tomorrow.
Opinion Poll
A coalition of Spanish right-wing parties – the PP .. Ciudadanos and far-right Vox – would fall just shy of a parliamentary majority, an opinion poll showed this morning.
On the left, the Socialist PSOE would need the support of anti-austerity Podemos and small regional parties for a majority.. so the poll by GAD3 for the ABC newspaper showed.
The poll, conducted between Feb. 18-22 with 800 respondents, showed the PSOE as winning the most votes of any one party, 28.9 percent and 122 seats. The PP was on 23.2 percent and 97 seats, Ciudadanos 15.7 percent with 53 seats and Vox with 10.8 percent and 23 seats.
A Sigma Dos poll published on Saturday showed the three-right wing parties would win a small majority.
Wild Fire.
MORE than 20 specialist firefighters were battling a wildfire that broke out in Andalucia Yesterday afternoon.
The blaze was declared in the Santa Ana La Real area in the province of Huelva.
ground teams were supported by a transport and firefighting helicopter during daylight hours.
Cyclist Death
EMERGENCY SERVICES have confirmed the death of a 28 year old Cyclist after an accident on a steep downward slope in the south of Spain.
The Andalucia emergency control centre said the cyclist was on a section near the town of San Roque when he fell.
Police and paramedics were alerted to the accident at 1.15pm yesterday
Drug Arrests.
The Guardia Civil have dismantled a group of 14 criminals, having gypsy ethnicity and operating across the Southern Costa Blanca where it’s believed almost thirty crimes related to drug trafficking were committed.
All 14 were arrested, seven different indoor marijuana plantations and four drug sales points being dismantled.
Marijuana was cultivated in their homes and in another five abandoned properties, all bank repossessions, which they occupied illegally and where they defrauded the electricity companies.
As well as selling the substances, small plant ‘cuttings’ were also sold, as well as heroin, cocaine and hashish.
Growing equipment and plants were seized, together with two shotguns and a pistol, used for protection, four vehicles and almost 10,000 euros in cash.
The arrested are all Spaniards, 8 men aged between 19 and 72, and 6 females aged between 17 and 47.
