Equality
SPAIN is among the worst in the world in terms of pay equality between men and women, despite being a ‘model country’ in terms of political empowerment and access to health and education.
This is the findings of the annual report on the gender gap of the World Economic Forum.
According to the Forum’s director ‘what is pulling Spain back is salary parity for similar work’, with the country ranked 129th out of 149 countries – 20 places from the bottom.
In contrast, Spain has reportedly advanced dramatically in gender equality when it comes to accessing education and health, ranking first in gender consistency for enrollment from primary to university education.
The report reveals there are, in fact, more women than men entering universities, but on the flip side 10 per cent less females go on to enter the workplace.
