Corruption
The vice president of Spain’s football association (RFEF), Andreu Subies, has been arrested as part of a police operation that also saw former president Angel Maria Villar resign on corruption charges.
Subies, the former president of the Catalan Football Federation joined the Spanish FA in May after Luis Rubiales was appointed president.
A police spokesman said Subies had been detained as part of an active investigation into the diversion of money from the Federation.
Along with Subies, another member of the Federation was arrested yesterday as part of the Police operation.
Driving
Snows conditions have forced authorities to make the use of snow chains or winter tyres mandatory near Granada in Andalucia. Buses and heavy goods vehicles are banned from the roads in some areas too.
The DGT has issued in an official Black level or unpassable notification that snowfall has completely cut off the A-395 in Monachil in the Sierra Nevada.
Despite the warnings the Guardia Civil said that the ski resort remains accessible to vehicles which don’t fall under the restrictions.
In La Calahorra on the the A-337, buses, lorries and articulated vehicles are banned
Car Sales
Spanish car manufacturer Seat has posted record operating profits of 237 million euros for the period between January and September this year .. a substantial 54.4% increase over the the same period last year.
The increase in sales saw Seat reach the highest volume in the company’s history with 415,600 vehicles delivered.
Train Strike
SPANISH train operator Renfe has announced plans to cancel 295 of their passenger train services today.
The company plans to suspend 87 AVE high-speed and long-distance trains as well as 208 of their medium-distance services.
The CGT UNion has called for strike action on the eve of the All Saints public holiday tomorrow.
They called for strike action ‘in defence of the public railway and to maintain a 37 and half hour working week.
Red Day
Tomorrow is a national holiday a ‘Red Day’, which means many businesses, shops and services may be closed.
Todos los Santos, also known as the ‘Day of the Dead’, is when many families go and visit the local cemeteries.
Because the cemeteries are usually very busy, local police are likely to enforce restrictions on both movement and parking nearby.
Traffic may be particularly busy in the morning.
