Murder

A man has been charged with murder, hours after prominent Spanish
golfer Celia Barquín Arozamena was found dead on an Iowa golf course.

Barquín, 22, won the European Ladies’ Amateur championship in July and
was a leading student athlete at Iowa State University.

Golfers at the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames discovered an unattended
golf bag on the course early yesterday.

Barquín was found dead by police a short distance away.

Police in the Iowa city of Ames said they had determined that Barquín
died following an assault.

Collin Daniel Richards, also 22, has been charged with her murder,
police say. He has no known address, according to their statement.

Homes

The government is planning “coercive measures” against the owners of
empty homes, according to an internal report.

In a bid to regulate housing “as a public service in the general
interest,” the Socialist government has drafted a set of initiatives
that would affect property owned by banks and developers, but also
private citizens. The measures are part of a report by the Housing
Secretary General’s Office.

There are an estimated 3.4 million empty homes in Spain ..“Mobilizing”
this pool of property has become one of the main goals of the Public
Works Ministry.

Elche Car Chace

Officers from the National Police were forced to give chase to a
vehicle through the streets of Elche after the car rammed them at a
checkpoint.

officers were involved in a routine checkpoint when a vehicle was seen
acting suspiciously on approach .. the vehicle accelerated towards
them at high speed and rammed through the barricades.

Officers gave chase through the streets, where the suspect vehicle
“zigzagged” at high speed ignored red lights and traffic signs, and
failed to stop.

Eventually the vehicle ended up in a dead end road .. Officers arested
both male occupants of the car .. an Algerian and a Spaniard ..
officers seized a bag containing more than half a kilo of marijuana
hidden on the under the front passenger seat.

Disruptive Passenger.

A Woman has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk on board an
aircraft after the plane was forced to return to its departure airport
just 30 minutes into its flight.

The Ryanair flight from Manchester to Ibiza turned around yesterday
afternoon and was met by police on arrival back at the airport.

Greater Manchester Police said a woman was arrested and taken into
custody on suspicion of being drunk on board an aircraft.

Ryanair said the flight departed for Ibiza again ‘shortly after’.

Exploding Laptop

A laptop caught fire and exploded on the Madrid Metro injuring several
passengers

At least six people suffered minor injuries as smoke filled the
carriage following the explosion – which police have confirmed was an
accident.

The explosion caused panic as commuters believed it was a terrorist attack.
